Napa Revisited

After the COPIA event on Friday afternoon (9/29), Miggy and I took a breather and rested up for a dinner appointment we had at the Martini House Restaurant, presided over by Chef Todd Humphries, hosted by the Sutter Home Winery. What a meal we had! We started out with a cold salad of lobster mushrooms on a bed of cannelini bean puree that was delicious enough on its own to make a meal out of!

Although the evening was very cool, we dined al fresco, with the aid of outside warmers.

Our table was comprised of all of the judges for Saturday’s event, save one, Cat Cora, who was hosting a huge event on Saturday evening and had to make preparations. Miggy and I shared a table with James McNair, host of the Build a Better Burger Competition, his partner, Andrew Moore, and FNTV’s Hearty Boys, Dan Smith and Steve MacDonagh. We hit it off immediately, and spent the rest of the evening having waaaaay too much fun!

Our next course was a medallion of filet mignon served atop fresh creamed corn that was absolutely devine. The filet was dressed with a foie gras ravioli, and the plate napped with a truffle jus. I am sure that is one entree that I will not soon forget.

Dessert was not a disappointment, either. Light as a cloud panna cotta, dressed with a pear gelee that was the perfect accent to a truly memorable meal!

By the time we left The Martini House Restaurant, we were all fast friends, and looking forward to the following days events, although we could not imagine how we were going to be able to eat all of those burger samples at tomorrow’s competition!

I was waiting at the door of the French Laundry all weekend. I kept telling Liz don’t worry they’ll be here soon. Thomas Keller finally turned the garden hose on us and ran us out of there.
