Missing Maine!

Whew! Now that BBlog is back up and running (that took more than a little bit of elbow grease from Fredlet and Jason…thanks guys!), we can get back to those gorgeous days spent on Whitehead Light Station with all my new friends.

We started the day out bright and early, everyone up to speed on their notes for the days cooking! Our culinary flight would be taking the class to Argentina today! On the menu were Caramelized-Onion and Blue Cheese  Empanadas, Humitas, Potato-Egg-Red Pepper Salad, Grilled Churrasco with Chimichurri,  and a nod to Puerto Rico: Tierrita Dulce!

Daisy and Mercedes melt chocolate for the Tierrita Dulce.

Eleen, Aida, Mercedes, and Daisy practising knife skills…rock the knife, Girls!

The class took their turn at roasting their own peppers, and learning how to crimp and pleat empanadas.  We actually managed to learn a few things, despite all the hilarity going on in the kitchen!

We sent the good Doctor out to grill the skirt steaks, which he did with great aplomb, despite the mist and fog!

Doc rocks the grill!.

Of course, the carrot at the end of the proverbial stick was a delicious meal we able to share together. See for yourself:

Aida, Daisy and Mercedes present the Tierrita Dulce.

What can I say? The first day of classes was a definite success, and we managed to get through it without any major catastrophes…we’ll see what Mercedes has in mind for us tomorrow!

    Daisy….
besides the tv, the books, the teaching,…you will leave a legacy in your family…your children especially…and God willing…the grandbabies.
When my mom..’guela’ to my half dutch kids, know that she is making habichuelas and white rice…they do their merengue dance a la americanitos!
Its all about the memories, and thanks for the ones you allowing me to create as well. cuz before daisy, this Dominicana could barely fry an egg..sad but true.

so go to Maine…or as we call it at home Mai-ney..and Cook! …would have loved to be part of the class…especially in such a beautiful place…
    many blessings…xo marilyn
